Satay with Peanut Sauce

Satay

Another Daring Bakers challenge!  After missing the last Daring Bakers challenge, we made an effort to get this one done with plenty of time to spare.  We made sure to get all the necessary ingredients well ahead of time.  We prepped with a few days to spare.  We even had days to upload photos and post.  Well, it half worked…  The January 2010 DC challenge was hosted by Cuppy of Cuppylicious and she chose a delicious Thai-inspired recipe for Pork Satay from the book 1000 Recipes by Martha Day.  We fixed the satay with plenty of time, but if you notice the posting time, this is only a few hours before the reveal day has passed.  Now to the satay.

We’ve mentioned before that there is an disproportionate number of good Thai restaurants in Ithaca and we go to one in particular so often that all of the wait staff knows us by face….and Dana’s order!  One has even tried to sell us her car, twice.  While satay isn’t in our usual order, we do get it from time to time.  The meat is good, but never that great, but the sauce…well we love us some peanut sauce.  Much like at the restaurant, we weren’t huge fans of the pork.  I think our issue was that the marinade was a little overpowering.  But again, like at the restaurant, the sauce was super tasty.  The only addition we made to the sauce was teaspoon or two of garlic chili paste to give it a hint of heat.  I think if we try the marinade recipe again, we’d tone down the spices.  Or cut the marinating time a bit.  Either way, for our first time making  satay at home I think it was a success.

  1. Haha! There’s an Indian restaurant we frequent that we’ve developed a similar relationship with; isn’t that an awesome feeling when you step inside? 😉

I’m glad you’re willing to try again, and I’m pleased that the peanut sauce satisfied your taste buds! That’s a really great picture, too, whenever I try that camera angle, my focus goes way off in the wrong direction. Well done! 😀
